Waiting on Wed

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine in which we have the opportunity to let others know about books that we are eagerly waiting for.

{Waiting For Wednesday} Valiant Blood

Bad Blood

by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Series: The Naturals #4
Published on November 1st 2016
by Disney Hyperion
Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary, Mystery

Also by this author: The Naturals, The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Killer Instinct

When Cassie Hobbes joined the FBI's Naturals program, she had one goal: uncover the truth about her mother's murder. But now, everything Cassie thought she knew about what happened that night has been called into question. Her mother is alive, and the people holding her captive are more powerful—and dangerous—than anything the Naturals have faced so far.

As Cassie and the team work to uncover the secrets of a group that has been killing in secret for generations, they find themselves racing a ticking clock.

New victims. New betrayals. New secrets.

When the bodies begin piling up, it soon becomes apparent that this time, the Naturals aren't just hunting serial killers.

Why I’m waiting: I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series so much. It’s SO good and not enough people gush about it, honestly. It’s really my favorite YA Mystery/Thriller series out there, for sure. And I can’t wait to read this next book in the series!

{Waiting For Wednesday} Valiant Blood

The Valiant

by Lesley Livingston
Published on February 14th 2017
by HarperCollins
Genres: Young Adult, Historical Fiction, Fantasy

The youngest daughter of a proud Celtic king, Fallon has always lived in the shadow of her older sister Sorcha's legendary reputation as a warrior. But when Fallon was a young child, the armies of Julius Caesar invaded the island of Britain and her beloved older sister was killed in battle.

On the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Fallon is excited to follow in her sister's footsteps and earn her rightful place in her father's royal war band. But she never gets the chance. Instead, Fallon is captured by a band of ruthless brigands who sell her to an exclusive training school for female gladiators—and its most influential patron is none other than Julius Caesar himself. In a cruel twist of fate, Fallon's worst enemy, the man who destroyed her family, might be her only hope of survival.

Now, Fallon must overcome vicious rivalries, chilling threats and the dangerous attention of Caesar himself to survive the deadly fights that take place both in and out of the arena—and claim her place in history among the Valiant.

Why I’m waiting: I loved Livingston’s Wondrous Strange series and I haven’t read anything else by hear in a while.  The Valiant is about a female gladiator school, now how cool is that?  It sounds so good, I can’t wait to delve into the Roman Empire with Fallon.

What are you waiting for this week?

  1. <3 LOVE the Naturals series!! I basically lob it at anyone who asks for a YA mystery rec 😀 Bad Blood is going to be EPIC (I hope)!!!! Valiant also looks phenomenal. Fantasy, Rome, and gladiators????? YES PLEASE. Great list 😀

  2. Nathan

My first thought is no to a book like The Valiant, but after I get past my first reaction to a book that will have the female MC fight to the death, I think maybe I should give it a chance after all. I have found at least one good Roman era set book in the past. I could love or hate a book like The Valiant, and yet, now I am curious.

  3. ooh I want The Valiant so badly now! I didn’t realise it was about Celtic kings. NEED. And I definitely need to keep reading the Jennifer Lynn Barnes series. *hides* I WILL, BEE, I PROMISE!! I loved bk 1 and I won bk 2 so I need to get a move on.😂

  4. The Naturals series reminds me a bit of Jennifer Harlow’s FREAKS series so I think I might like it. And ohhhhh my god, I’ll HAVE to read The Valiant when it comes out. Anything set in Rome is a must-read for me.
