3 TV-shows I’ve Been Watching

Posted June 7, 2018 by Bee in Discussion / 8 Comments

Since I haven’t been reading much due to a slump caused by warm weather, I thought I’d share the TV-shows I’ve been watching lately. I love watching TV-shows and movies and since I don’t have a job at the moment, I have a lot of free time. It’s one of the ways I like getting my mind off things. So here are the shows I’ve watched and the shows I’m currently watching. (Ssshhh I know this is not about books but it does say bookISH babble, so.)

Watched

Shameless (US)

What is it about?

Shameless is the US remake of the British series of the same name. It’s about a messy, dysfunctional family of six children who cope the best they can while their deadbeat alcoholic dad spends most of his days drunk.

My thoughts:

I do love this show. The Gallagher family is the definition of messy and dysfunctional, living on the edge of the poverty line or way below it. None of the characters are perfect and yet somehow they’re all likable in their own way. Frank, the deadbeat dad, messes up things for everyone a lot but he does care about his kids. Fiona works so hard to keep the family together and yeah she screws up sometimes and she’s not perfect, but she is very much like a mom to them all. Lip is supersmart and doesn’t use his intelligence for the right things but he has a good heart. Just like Ian, his gay brother with bipolar disorder like their mom. Carl is… a special boy with his own issues. Debbie is too adult for her age and Liam is just the youngest of the family that everyone adores and dotes on. They face many challenges and ups and downs but I love that in the end they work best when they’re together. If you love stories about messy families, this is one you have to try.

Weeds

What is it about?

Weeds is about a widowed mother of two boys who starts selling marijuana to support her family and keep their luxurious lifestile after her husband dies of a heart attack. Over the course of the series, the family gets deeper and deeper into illegal activity.

My thoughts:Β

This is a show I watched with my boyfriend after we binged the first and only season of Disjointed on Netflix. We were looking for something similar and ended up watching this. And yet again, I found myself watching a show about a messy family coping the best they can under the circumstances. Unlike Shameless, this one is already finished after 8 seasons. I really enjoyed this show and its characters. None of them are perfect and some of them I even hate (Celia). I loved that they always ended up working together again and were there for each other in their own way. Nancy is not a perfect mom but she does what she thinks is best for everyone, messing up a lot on the way. Andy was my favorite character of them all. He’s Nancy’s brother-in-law with some serious cooking skills and he’s just so goodhearted and sweet and ends up being a father-figure for Nancy’s two sons. Silas is a typical teenage boy who ends up following in his mom’s footsteps, developing a love for growing plants. Shane is very intelligent but not very… socially developed, I guess. I’m very fond of him and felt the need to protect him all the time. Weeds is a fun show about another messy family but yet very different from for example Shameless. I really had a good time watching it and find myself missing the cast of characters now that it’s over.

Currently watching

Breaking Bad

What is it about?

Breaking Bad follows the story of high school chemistry teacher Walter White, who is diagnosed with lung cancer. To support his family he turns to a life of crime by cooking crystal meth with his former student Jesse Pinkman.

My thoughts so far:

I’m enjoying it! I know it’s long overdue that I watch this show and I’ve heard so many rave reviews of it that it made me curious. So now I’m currently at season 3 with my boyfriend. Though I don’t especially like most of the characters, in fact most of them are actually quite horrible people. I do have a special fondness of Jesse though. He reminds me of one of my characters from my books and I just want to protect him and wrap him in warm blankets all the time.

The Big Bang Theory

What is it about?

The Big Bang Theory originally centered on five characters: Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj – a group of socially awkward but very intelligent guys – and Penny, an aspiring actress/waitress, as they navigate life and relationships.

My thoughts so far:

Okay I’ve seen the first… nine or so seasons already so this is a rewatch! But due to circumstances, I stopped watching for a while and am now watching it again from the beginning so I can catch up. I know a lot of people are mixed about this show and don’t think it deserves to be renewed every year, but I for one am very fond of it.Β The Big Bang Theory is one of my feel-good shows. One of the three sitcoms I turn to when I feel bad that I know will make me laugh and forget everything for a while. The other two are Friends and How I Met Your Mother. So yet again, I’m loving it and yes I do ship Shamy forever.

Have you watched any of these shows? Or do you have any you recommend I should watch? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I started watching Shameless a few years ago because one of my friends adored it. I think I watched two or three seasons and stopped for some reason. And now I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it. There just wasn’t enough to bring me back.

I used to watch Big Bang religiously a few years ago, but I also stopped *hides* I don’t even know why! I think channel nine changed when it was on and then it’s on seven now, I think? I’m not sure, but somewhere along the way I stopped and I can’t be bothered picking it back up again. I am very picky with my TV shows!!

The two shows I started watching most recently are iZombie, which I’m loving, and Fear The Walking Dead, which is killing me because they keep killing off my favourite characters πŸ™ It’s still very good, though! But not as good as The Walking Dead, which is brilliant in every way. But also kills off everyone you love, so.

  2. Ooh I am so curious about Shameless! I need to look that up!! And like I get really into watching a show for a little while and then all of a sudden I’ll get too busy and then I’ll bail for like…um, FOREVER. πŸ˜‚I’m halfway through S6 of Game of Thrones and I just freaking BAILED ON IT AND WHY, CAIT, WHY. I want to know what happens but I’m also chill.πŸ˜‚ And when my sister comes home for the holidays we watch lots of Brooklyn 99 which is so funny and feel good!!

  3. Breaking Bad! My husband and I are working our way through that too though veryyyyyyyy slowlyyyyyyy. Like lately it’s been one episode a month. We are halfway through season 4 right now. Cannot wait to see how it ends! I’m glad you are enjoying it too!

I think I stopped watching The Big Bang Theory around season 7, I just lost track of it but I want to catch up so I have a light show in my line-up. I started watching Breaking Bad late too but it was worth it.
