What if your devastating break-up became this summer's hit single? In this rock-and-roll retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, music can either bring you together or tear you apart.

At her dying mother's request, Claire dumps Jared, the only boy she's ever loved. Left with a broken family and a broken heart, Claire is furious when she discovers that her biggest regret became Jared's big break. While Jared is catapulted into rock-star status, another piece of Claire's heart crumbles every time his song plays on the radio.

The summer after her senior year, it's been months since the big break-up, and Claire is just trying to keep her head down and make it through a tense trip to the beach with her family. But when Jared shows up, and old feelings reignite, can Claire and Jared let go of the past? Or will they be stuck singing the same old refrain?

I received this book for free from the publisher or author in exchange for an honest review.
This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

3.5 Stars

This was such a fun book! And just what I needed too! It’s the perfect book to read on a hot summer day on the beach. Or a cold day in the winter snuggled up under a warm blankett. You don’t have to do much thinking and just enjoy the book! I love those books from time to time.

When Claire’s dying mother asks Claire to break up with Jared, the only boy she’s ever loved, she’s left with a broken family and a broken heart. But that soon changes into anger when she finds out that her biggest regret became Jared’s big break. Jared suddenly is a rock-star and every time his song plays on the radio, Claire’s heart breaks.
The summer after her senior year, months after the break-up, Claire is trying to keep her head down and make it through a trip to the beach with her family. And then Jared shows up and old feelings resurface.

This was a very quick and light read. You don’t need tissues for this one. If you’ve read a lot of heavy and emotional books lately, this is just the thing you need. This is a story about family, mistakes, love and making the right choices. If it would be turned into a movie, it would be a great family movie. And I loved how music was such a big part of this book! I just… Yeah I liked it a lot!

I don’t know if you can really call it a book about romance, I’d say it’s more about second chances. Sure, Claire and Jared have great chemistry together and in the memories she has, there are a lot of sweet romantic scenes but in the present, not that much. Even so, I liked it.

I liked Claire okay. I loved her sarcasm and her taste in music, but I don’t really love her as a character. The thing that I didn’t like that much is probably that she broke up with Jared because her mom asked. Sure okay, she was dying, but still it’s unfair to ask that! If she’s happy with the guy and he’s good to her, why break up? I’m just saying… I wouldn’t have done it I think. I liked Jared, but not at first. But after a while he’s really a pretty good guy and he’s sweet! I’m on his side for sure. There were also a lot of other characters, a bit too many in my opinion. I didn’t really care for most of them.

So like I said, this is a sweet book about family, second chances, … And I recommend it to fans of contemporary who just want a light fun book instead of all the heavy emotional ones for a change.

They all look great, but I especially want Dancergirl because I borrowed it from the library a few years ago, loved it, and now I really want to own it! Thanks for the giveaway! 😀
