Ellie Cahill is poised to coin the term “sorbet sex” with her charming twist on the age-old ‘friends-with-benefits’ story.
Dating can be fun, but it can leave a nasty taste in your mouth. For Joss, ever since her longtime boyfriend cheated on her, she doesn’t want her last memory of a guy to be that jerk. Enter her college friend, Matt. They come up with a theory: after a bad break-up, a person needs to cleanse the palate with a little sorbet sex. Lovers for a night, but always back to being friends in the morning. The two can handle it because they have a contract: rules they wrote, rules they follow and rules they can sometimes bend. The arrangement works: everyone needs a little sorbet now and again … until it starts to be the only thing you want. And then Joss breaks the one rule they never wrote down: don’t fall in love.

This is another light and fun New Adult read that I read in one sitting and enjoyed a lot! The other one is the book I read before this, Boomerang by Noelle August, and while I liked that one quite a bit, I loved When Joss Met Matt.
Joss and Matt meet each other in college and become friends almost right away. When Joss’ boyfriend breaks up with her after cheating on her, she’s heartbroken and determined not to fall in love again. So then she and Matt come up with Sorbet Sex. Lovers at night, friends during the day. They make a contract with rules and everything. And it for a while it works for the both of them. Until Joss finds herself slowly breaking the one rule they never wrote down: don’t fall in love.
I love romances that start as friendship. There something so real and genuine about that. It gives the couple a lot of chemistry and you can see their bond growing. And it does grow throughout the book. It’s very sweet and romantic. Though they do make a few annoying mistakes along the way. And I personally don’t get why it took them so many years to figure it out while I saw it immediately in the first two chapters. But Joss and Matt together are awesome. I loved their banter and their relationship.
This book is told in alternating chapters. One storyline tells us how they both met and how their bond grew over the years and the other is the Now. I liked this way of storytelling and it all did pay off very nicely in the end. I loved the writing, especially the dialogue. I was smiling the whole time I was reading this. This is my first book by Liz Czukas, who’s writing under the name Ellie Cahill, and I can tell you that I will check out her YA works too. It’s just a matter of when I’ll get to them.
I recommend this book to everyone who likes New Adult and wants something lighter than the standard steamier new adult books around. When Joss Met Matt is a fun and cute book with a very sweet and kind of very adorable romance.

I was really surprised when I found out this author was going to write an NA, since all I’ve known from her were all YA books, but it looks like she was able to hit one right on the head. I’ve read like one negative review, and so many positive, that I’m sure I’d find something to love in this one, too 🙂

Yay! So glad you enjoyed this, Bieke! I thought this was so much fun and I know some people were put off by them sleeping with other people but it was all so realistic!
Liz Czukas said she’s writing more NA. I can’t wait! 🙂
