{On a Personal Note} Liza’s Health Goals

Posted January 19, 2018 by Liza in Personal / 12 Comments

Last year was rough.  I had many health issues that got aggravated other issues.  For instance, I had (and still have) and hip bursitis and also plantar fasciitis which are both painful and limited my physical activity.  I also had three cortisone injections for these problems which raised my blood sugar.

Now, this is not a post for me to complaint and go on and on, but to share what I’m doing about it.

Managing my Weight

I’m overweight.  I have a family history of diabetes and I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy, so being pre-diabetic is my own fault.  I need to take better care of myself.  Thus far I’m monitoring my carbs and I lost 15 pounds last year.  As soon as I can actually exercise, I plan to walk to help the process along.

Re-learn What to Eat

Instead of bemoaning what I cannot eat, one of my goals is enjoy what I can eat.  I’m using Pinterest to get ideas (see my Low Carb board) and recipes, and also a few magazines and books.  I’m learning to cook a different meal for myself and not complain about it. I want to get excited about food!

Be an Example to my Kids

I want to be a good example for my kids and also show them that everything is possible if you set your mind to it.

What are some of your health goals for this year?

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your health issues, Liza, but happy to hear that you’re willing to take the necessary steps to recover.
Good luck with managing your weight. It can be tough, but very fulfilling. Have you considered Weight Watchers, maybe? And it’s not always good to completely cut down carbs. The meal plan I was on was portion controlled. I could eat everything that I normally ate (including my fave rice!), but I had to measure everything that I ate. I was surprised at how filling it turned out to be.
    Anyways, good luck! 🙂

  2. Hugs to you, Liza! I’m so sorry you’ve had so many health issues to deal with. Both sides of my family have a long history of Type II diabetes and so I’ve been groomed to expect it to appear at some point… this year is the first year I’m completely out of college so I joined a gym and I’m determined to get into a more healthy exercise regiment. And with my parents both being diabetic, my diet has changed since moving back home… it’s for the better I’m sure! We can do it!!! I’ll be cheering you on, always!

    Have a wonderful week. =)

Wishing you success on your health goals, Liza! You can do it!

I’ve been trying to cut back on sugar and carbohydrates and to eat more fruits and vegetables.

I wish you well with your goals. My goal is to get better control of my epilepsy and OCD issues. Last year had flare ups in both areas and I had one seizure this year already (Yikes).

Ahh, it’s nice to see that you’ll be doing something to help solve your health problems! Good luck!! c:

My (maybe not exactly health-related, but close enough) goal for 2018 is to take self-care more seriously and put myself in first place for once! I am the most important person in my life, after all…
