No one creates realms like New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop. Now in a thrilling new fantasy series, enter a world inhabited by the Others, unearthly entities—vampires and shape-shifters among them—who rule the Earth and whose prey are humans.

As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

5 Stars

Okay, so yesterday evening I finished reading Written in Red and when I put it down I just needed a few moments to myself, because DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN this was an incredible book! I never thought I would like it as much as I did. Anne Bishop just created such an amazing new world and everything was so woven so perfectly together.

To avoid spoilers, I won’t go into detail about the story itself, but I’ll talk a little about it. First off we meet Meg Corbyn, a cassandra sangue or a blood prophet as they say. Whenever her skin is cut, she has prophecies that are worth thousands of dollars. After escaping her Controller and the Walking Names, she ends up in a Courtyard of the Others, where she becomes their Human Liaison. Of course her Controller won’t let her go like that and he does eveyrthing in his power to get her back. Simon Wolfgard, the leader of Courtyard, doesn’t know what to make of Meg, as she doesn’t smell like prey, which makes him uneasy. Add to the fact that a new drugs is pumping aggression into humans and have them attacking the Others, his hands are full trying to find out where the drugs come from and how to stop the humans from stepping out of place.

Now let’s that talk characters. I loved Meg, she’s just so sweet and innocent, having lived her entire life with her Controller and the Walking Names, there are a lot of things she never learned to do, as she and the other girls were only given picture, clips, movies and other things to educate them only so they could explain their prophecies and know what everything was. In some ways, Meg is still a child that is learning the worl around her and it’s that, that I love so much about her. She’s so different from all the other characters and it’s refreshing meeting someone like her. Now the Others, hoboy, they are just awesome! We first meet Simon Wolfgard, who’s the leader of the Courtyard and he’s just so incredible! We also meet lots of other characters like Elliott another Wolf, Jake a Crow, Henry a Grizzly, the Elementals, the Ponies, Blair a Wolf, Vlad a Sanguinati, Nyx a Sanguinati and Erebus the leader I could guess you could call him, of the Sanguinati. There are quite a few more, but this review would be too long if I put them all in right now. But I do want to say that I LOVED Sam, Simon’s nephew and a little wolf pup, who is so adorable and so playful.

Now with all that being said, this book has risen to my Top 10 Favourites and it’s probably going to stay there for quite some time. My rating for this fabulous book? 5 STARS!!!!
