One kiss could be the last

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

5 Stars

EEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!! This is the first book I’ve read by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I LOVED it!!!!

The story is about Layla, who is half-demon, half-Warden. As she struggles to fit in, both with her adoptive family and school, and tries to squash down the growing crush on Zayne, the hot Warden living in the same house as her. Especially since the whole soul-stealing-kiss thing complicates matters even worse. Everything comes crashing down when Demons start looking for her and trying to kill her. And the only one who seems to want to give her any answers is Roth, a demon. But Layla isn’t sure if she can trust him or the growing attraction she feels for him. And seeing as her soul-stealing-kiss doesn’t work on a demon with no soul, it’s even harder for her to resist him and the answers he’s willing to give her.

Okay, so I’m gonna stop there, because otherwise I’ll keep blabbing.

The characters were awesome. I enjoyed reading about each and every one of them, from the lowly side-characters to the main characters, they all rocked in their own. But, of course there’s a but, if Layla ends up with Zayne … I WILL FLIP MY SHIT!!!!!

Let me explain why, first off there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that gorgeous hunk of Warden-flesh named Zayne. He’s sweet and kind and such a good guy, with his own character flaws, but he’s just NOT right for Layla. He’s better off with Danika (sorry to all you Zayne lovers), I just can’t picture him with Layla because it feels off to me. I think he’s a great friend and big brother to Layla, but that’s it for me.

But Roth, ladies (and gents), oh mama help me because I’m fallin’ and I don’ care! That Demon makes my head spin and makes me wanna sin! And he’s exactly the kind of guy I would fall for too. So Layla better end up with him, because he’s PERFECT for her, perfect you hear me!? I’ll bawl like a baby if she and Roth don’t end up together. Seriously, I will!

As for Layla herself, I loved her, she’s naive and a little reckless, but also loyal and sweet and she’s has just perfect human flaws, that make me relate to her. So yes, she’s awesome!

Now with all that set and done, I’m banging my head against the wall because the second book in this trilogy isn’t coming out until October *wants to strangle the Harlequin Teen*, it’s sooooo not fair, especially when I see all these lovely bloggers around carrying their ARCs or an BEA ARC copy of it!!! I WANT ONE TOO!!!! -_- Oh well, nothing can be done, I’ll just have to wait I guess, but I’m not happy about it, because I wanna know what happens next! *sigh* Three months to go…
