The award-winning trilogy, now in one volume—with a new introduction.
Anne Bishop’s critically-acclaimed Black Jewels Trilogy is the saga of a young but still-innocent Queen more powerful than even the High Lord of Hell—and the three sworn enemies determined to win her and gain a prize that could be terriblebeyond imagining…

Okay, so I put this review off for a long, long, looooooooooooong time. But now I’m ready to write it down.
Let me start by saying that no matter what other people think (whether they hated it or loved it) I will always and forever have a special place in my heart for this trilogy. Because the Black Jewels trilogy was the first dark fantasy I ever read when I was sixteen and I fell in love with it then. Even to this day it’s in my top ten of “comfort books”.
That being said, I will also honestly admit that Jaenelle (the main female lead) is NOT my favourite person in the book. I’m actually kind of “meh” over her. She’s not very interesting unless she’s surrounded by other characters that can support her, otherwise you’ll most likely be disappointed with her.
However I LOVE Saetan, Daemon and Lucivar and also Chaosti (yes, you haters can all go suck it, I love those guys, so sue me!). There is just something sooo … tempting I think you can call it, about those characters. Whenever one of them shows up, I just can’t help but swoon a little.
I also have a MAJOR soft spot for the “kitties” and Ladvarian. And for those who have read the books, you know who I mean when I say “kitties” 😛 . And okay I cried like a baby the first time I read it when Kaetien died. I mean C’MON of all the characters Anne Bishop had to kill, she killed Jaenelle’s very first friend and a unicorn at that (one of my favourite mythical creatures, and really I don’t care if that sounds childish), it just didn’t seem fair that he had to die. And don’t get me started on the other characters Bishop killed off, I’m still pissed about Dejaal too.
Anyway, the stories themselves, like I said, will always have a special place in my heart, they might not be perfect but to me personally, they’re wonderful and I’ll re-read them whenever the mood strikes me.
