Yara Jones doesn't believe in sea monsters--until she becomes one.

When a hurricane hits her island home and she wakes up with fins, Yara finds herself tangled up in an underwater world of mysterious merfolk and secretive selkies. Both sides believe Yara can save them by fulfilling a broken promise and opening the sealed gateway to their realm, but they are battling over how it should be done. The selkies want to take her life. The merfolk want something far more precious.

Treygan, the stormy-eyed merman who turned Yara mer, will stop at nothing and sacrifice everything to protect his people--until he falls for Yara. The tides turn as Yara fights to save herself, hundreds of sea creatures, and the merman who has her heart. She could lose her soul in the process--or she might open the gateway to a love that's deeper than the oceans.

4 Stars

So this one is another mermaid story, but again I was completely blown away by it. It was so different and so interesting, I couldn’t stop reading it last night. It was really, really good!

So about the story: it’s about Yara Jones, who during a storm gets taken to the sea by Treygan, a merman, who will do anything to save his people and there she is changed into a mermaid herself. After being human her whole life and living with her uncle Lloyd, Yara doesn’t take to kindly at being turned at first. She doesn’t want to be a mermaid, she wants to go back to her normal life, with her boyfriend Rownan. Of course that all changes when she finds out, why exactly she was turned and that both Treygan and Rownan carry much more secrets then she ever imagined.

That said, without trying to spoil to much, the story was awesome it has a lot of twists and turns and some of them I did not see coming, at all. Like the one with uncle Lloyd? Yeah, totally unprepared for that one! But others like the broken promise to the gorgons? That one, I actually saw coming, because otherwise the story wouldn’t have made sense. So all in all, it was a great story and I loved every second of it.

As for the characters, I really enjoyed reading about them especially Treygan, he has this certain je ne sais quoi, that I love in male characters. Yara, the main character, is great too but sometimes she got on my nerves for being so stubborn, other then that she was nice. Rownan, eeeeeeh I have a double feeling. I like him and then I don’t, then I like him again and then I don’t. It’s an on and off relationship and it could improve during the second book, but we’ll see. We’ve also got a bunch of other characters like Lloyd (and what a surprise he turned out to be), Koraline, Pango, Nixie the Siren, Otabia the Siren and lots more!

Seriously, people should just read the book if they wanna find out more. Because it’ll be totally worth it, for someone who loves both mermaids with a bit of greek mythology thrown in there. Tangled Tides will leave you wanting to read more before you reach the end!
