Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things, though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.

Mothers can disappear.

Visions can mislead.

Certainties can unravel.

In a starred review, The Bulletin called The Dream Thieves, the previous book in The Raven Cycle, "a complex web of magical intrigue and heart-stopping action." Now, with Blue Lily, Lily Blue, the web becomes even more complex, snaring readers at every turn. (less

Okay, I need a breather…. or two ….

Damn, Blue Lily, Lily Blue was so intense! I couldn’t stop reading it. I needed to know what happened to everyone. And GAH THE FEELS! OH THE FEELS!!

So, what do know about the story? We know that the gang is looking for Maura, Blue’s mom because she disappeared at the end of The Dream Thieves. And planet damn it all if it wasn’t the most thrilling of all books so far. Everything is so much darker in this book. What’s the deal with that Persephone thing? O.O SO NOT FAIR!!!!

And everyone realizes that it’s all more dangerous then they every expected it to be. Everything about Blue Lily, Lily Blue was so much more character driven in my humble opinion. And it was fantastic! HOW AM I EVEN SUPPOSED TO EXPLAIN THE MAGNIFICENCE OF THIS BOOK WITHOUT FLAILING AROUND LIKE AN IDIOT???? AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT CLIFFHANGER AGAIN, BECAUSE I NEARLY THREW A VASE AT THE WALL SCREAMING “OH C’MON!!!

So I’m just going to coo over the characters like I’ve done for the last two books.

Let’s start with Blue and hot damn, she’s finally showing some temper! With her mom missing, Blue has developed the habit of getting angry a lot easier at everything. She’s tired of being left out the look of her psychic family, because she doesn’t have the same powers as they do. And I get it, I totally get it. She also discovers a lot more about who she is as the story progresses and I liked that a lot, because it showed that there’s a lot more to Blue then being a “battery” for everyone and Noah.

Gansey is still so precious but now he understand that there are a lot more consequences to trying to find Glendower then he ever expected to be. And he’s worried so much about his friends and trying to keep everyone together while at the same trying to battle the fear that is slowly creeping up on him and at every turn. Like at the cave, I wanted to hug him and tell him everything’s all right because seriously I don’t like seeing Gansey afraid and hurt.

Ronan OMP HE’S STILL MY PRECIOUS DARLING MUNCHKIN!!!! HE NEEDS LOVE AND HUGS AND EVERYTHING NICE! I don’t get why some people don’t like Ronan, yes he’s a jerk but that has it’s reasons and really how you can love his imperfect, munchkin ass?

Let’s not forget about Adam, because he deserves a medal for the character development he went through in the book. He’s finally getting out of the habit of getting into fights with his friends and being more productive as Cabeswater magician. When the part with his dad came in, I just wanted to hide him away and never let anyone hurt him ever again. He deserves some happiness in his life for once.

And Noah, nooooooooooooooooooo I don’t want anything to happen to Noah! Why is this even happening? He’s such a precious gem, so why are we slowly losing him? And what’s wrong with him here? There’s so many things that don’t make sense and I just hope it all gets clarified in the last book of the series, because I don’t want Noah to go away. He needs to stay!

One last thing I’d like to add are how much I despise Colin Greenmantle and his wife Piper. I don’t like them, I really don’t. And at the end what is even with Neeve????

I really don’t like where all this is going right now. Because I know The Raven King will unleash the shit storm that’s about to happen. Let’s hope I survive it all when I start it and hope my heart isn’t going to be shattered into a million pieces.

About Maggie Stiefvater

New York Times bestselling author of The Shiver Trilogy, The Raven Cycle, and The Scorpio Races. Artist. Driver of things with wheels. Avid reader.

All of Maggie Stiefvater’s life decisions have been based around her inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you’re a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which she’s tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists and artists. She’s made her living as one or the other since she was 22. She now lives an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia with her charmingly straight-laced husband, two kids, two neurotic dogs, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

  1. Haha, I’m glad you liked this book! Unfortunately, BLLB was a letdown for me – the pacing seemed so slow, and nothing really /happened/, other than Persephone and Jesse. It seemed to rely a lot on the popularity of the previous two books rather than its own merits to get people to like it. However, The Raven King was one of my very favorite books I read last year! I’ll be interested to see your thoughts on it 🙂

Really?? I LOVED it so much, I’ve got to be honest I actually do like slow pacing in some books and BLLB was perfect for it! 🙂
