About the Book
Title: THE DRAGONS OF NOVA (Loom Saga #2)
Author: Elise Kova
Pub. Date: July 11, 2017
Publisher: Keymaster Press
Formats: Hardcover, eBook, audiobook
Cvareh returns home to his sky world of Nova with the genius crafter Arianna as his temperamental guest. The mercurial inventor possesses all the Xin family needs to turn the tides of a centuries-old power struggle, but the secrets she harbors must be earned with trust — hard to come by for Ari, especially when it comes to Dragons. On Nova, Ari finds herself closer to exacting vengeance against the traitor who killed everything — and everyone – she once loved. But before Ari can complete her campaign of revenge, the Crimson Court exposes her shadowed past and reveals something even more dangerous sparking between her and Cvareh.
While Nova is embroiled in blood sport and political games, the rebels on Loom prepare for an all-out assault on their Dragon oppressors. Florence unexpectedly finds herself at the forefront of change, as her unique blend of skills — and quick-shooting accuracy — makes her a force to be reckoned with. For the future of her world, she vows vengeance against the Dragons.
Before the rebellion can rise, though, the Guilds must fall.

1. Can you describe The Dragons of Nova in five words or less?
Bloody. Gritty. Steampunk. Fantasy reimagined.
2. How is the writing the Loom Saga different than writing the Air Awakens series?
Oh goodness, it’s completely different. Air Awakens was a young adult series, so the story was more focused on finding one’s self, and the overall prose was a bit simpler. The Loom Saga is technically an adult series, so with more complex themes, requiring a vastly different mindset.
3. How did you came up with such an amazing and strong character like Arianna?
Well, foremost, I’m glad you think she’s amazing and strong! I think every character should have their strengths and weaknesses because that’s what makes them “real”. For all of Arianna’s strength, she has some major character flaws that hold her back, and I wanted that to be an important part of her character. I wanted to write the type of woman I wanted to read.
4. What inspired you to write YA?
It just sort of worked out that way, honestly. I just write the stories I want to write, and however they turn out is how they turn out. AIR AWAKENS just so happened to be a YA story when it was finished. The central conflict of the book was about Vhalla finding herself and her place in the world. THE ALCHEMISTS OF LOOM doesn’t have that central theme, so, when combined with the overall voice, that makes it Adult instead of YA.
5. I love the mix of fantasy and steampunk in Alchemists. What kind of research did you have to do for this series?
I spent about a year world-building for the Loom Saga, and research came from many different sources. I spent time touring the old naval national park and Alcatraz in San Francisco that helped inspire some mechanics of Loom and the floating prison. Prior to being an author, I worked at a large manufacturing company, and the things I was exposed to there – like tooling and supply chain – really helped give me a framework for the world. I even went to a gun range with one of my best friends and an ex-military guy to learn about weaponry and shoot revolvers for myself to get the feel of them. Oh, and, of course, Google.
6. Anything else you want to add about the story?
Just that it’s very different from my other works. So if you liked Air Awakens you may not like Loom, and vice versa. That’s totally okay, too! But if you didn’t like one, I’d still say give the other a chance because they are nothing alike.
7. Pie or cake?
Raw cake, otherwise known as cake batter.
8. Current read?
WINDWITCH by Susan Dennard. I still haven’t finished it, because I am a bad friend ^_^;;;
9. DC or Marvel?
Both, both is good!
10. Facebook, Instagram or Twitter?
Twitter for random thoughts and news.
Instagram before bed; scrolling through pretty pictures is so soothing!
Elise Kova has always had a profound love of fantastical worlds. Somehow, she managed to focus on the real world long enough to graduate with a Master’s in Business Administration before crawling back under her favorite writing blanket to conceptualize her next magic system. She currently lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, and when she is not writing can be found playing video games, watching anime, or talking with readers on social media. She is the USA Today bestselling author of the Air Awakens Series as well as the upcoming Loom Saga (Keymaster, 2017).
