Best of 2013

This is it! The last post of the year! On Friday I did the awesome End of Year Survey, in which I shared some of my favorites, but I didn’t feel like that was enough. 2013 was my first full year as a blogger and I wanted to make an overall top 10 and a few top 3’s and top 5’s for the genres I review the most. It’s the perfect way to end the year, isn’t it? I’ll start with the genres, then the overall top 10 (which was very hard to make!) and then 10 other books I really loved this year that didn’t make the other lists.

Note: these are all books that I READ this year. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they came out this year too.

Genre top 3/5

I think this is the genre I’ve read the least books in, but I still wanted to make a top 3 because some books deserve a spotlight!

1. Captive in the Dark by C.J. Roberts
2. Seduced in the Dark by C.J. Roberts
3. Feeling Death by D.T. Dyllin

This is probably the most popular genre for me and the hardest to choose from. Such a good year for this genre! So many good ones.

1. Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
2. Me Since You by Laura Wiess
3. Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry
4. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
5. Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

YES, there are enough good ones for me in this genre to make a top 5! I was surprised too, but it was a very good year for dystopian novels!

1. Angelfall by Susan Ee
2. Steel Lily by Megan Curd
3. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner
4. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
5. Pawn by Aimee Carter

Not that much great ones for me in this genre, but the ones that I did love were awesome.

1. Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo
2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
3. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
4. Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
5. Words Once Spoken by Carly Drake

Paranormal (Romance)

Not that much in this one, but a few that deserve a spotlight so here we go!

1. Pivot Point by Kasie West
2. Indelible by Dawn Metcalf
3. Hidden Gates by D.T. Dyllin

Top 10 books of 2013!

Yeah, this is the most important list! Which books were the absolute top of 2013 for me personally? They’re all from the lists above and I’m going to tell why they are on this list too!

10. Steel Lily by Megan Curd
I told you it was on here, Megan! Like I said in my review: I didn’t like this book, I F-ing LOVED IT! And I still do. That’s why this dystopian beauty deserves a spot on here. It’s just that awesome.

9. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner
This was just an awesome book, guys. I just loved it. Just read it okay? I know, it’s not really dystopian, it’s more like Sci-Fi, but I didn’t have enough books in that genre to make a top 3, so I put it in the dystopian list, but it’s great!

8. Stir Me Up by Sabrina Elkins
Harlequin Teen had a few great books this year! And this is one of them. It didn’t make the top 5 in the Contemporary list above because it had a lot of competition, but it is amazing and it is in my top 10.

7. Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker
Amazing, brilliant, breathtaking. I LOVED it!

6. Angelfall by Susan Ee
The third dystopian book here! And this one was just… Oh my god it was so awesome.

5. Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo
A lot of awesome books this year and this really is one of them. It blew my socks off and I can’t believe I still haven’t found the time to read the sequel.

4. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
SO amazing and my favorite quote of the year came from this book. Loved it!

3. Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry
I don’t even have the right words to say how much I loved this one. The entire trilogy even. Katie is one of my favorite authors of this year!

2. Me Since You by Laura Wiess
This one shot straight into my top 10 when I read it. I was a sobbing, crying wreck but I loved this book so much. And it’s so relatable! READ IT! NOW!

1. Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
Now this one instantly became my number 1 of the entire year. Oh my god… Colleen is a goddess. I love you!

10 other awesome books of 2013

Because there are so many awesome books this year, I just wanted to make an additional list. Here are 10 other fantastic books that I read this year and that didn’t make the other lists by a hair.

~ All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terril
~ Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
~ Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke
~ The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
~ The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
~ Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma
~ Heartbeat by Elizabeth Scott
~ Shooting Stars by H.D. Gordon
~ Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton
~ The Program by Suzanne Young

That’s it for this year! If you haven’t read any of these books, I recommend you do so soon! They’re all awesome. I’m sorry if your book didn’t make the lists, but it was really hard to choose. Have you made a “Best of 2013”-list yet?

This is my last post of the year, I won’t be back until January 6th, so I wish you all Happy Holidays. Celebrate with your loved ones and I’ll see you all in 2014 with a big, awesome giveaway! Thank you all for this awesome year!
