What does a sixteen-year-old girl have to do to kiss a boy? Molly Peskin-Suso wishes she knew. She’s crushed on twenty-six guys…but has kissed exactly none. Her twin sister Cassie’s advice to “just go for it” and “take a risk” isn’t that helpful. It’s easy for her to say: she’s had flings with lots of girls. She’s fearless and effortlessly svelte, while Molly is introverted and what their grandma calls zaftig.

Then Cassie meets Mina, and for the first time ever, Cassie is falling in love. While Molly is happy for her twin, she can’t help but feel lonelier than ever. But Cassie and Mina are determined to end Molly’s string of unrequited crushes once and for all. They decide to set her up with Mina’s friend Will, who is ridiculously good-looking, flirty, and seems to be into Molly. Perfect, right? But as Molly spends more time with Reid, her cute, nerdy co-worker, her feelings get all kinds of complicated. Now she has to decide whether to follow everyone’s advice…or follow her own heart.

Okay, so let’s get the elephant out of the room first, shall we? And the elephant in this case is that BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS FANTASTIC other book from this author that I kind of like. I mean… AHAHA okay let’s be honest, everyone knows my love for SIMON VS is endless and I’ll keep shoving it in everyone’s faces and make them read it because obviously. So yeah there was a bit of pressure on this book. And by that I mean a lot. Is it on a SIMON VS level for me? Not quite, but almost. It’s very very very very close. But honestly, no book can top SIMON. And I never expected this one to do that. I just wanted to love it because it’d give me much sadness if I didn’t. But luckily this book is A BRILLIANT GLOMP OF WONDERFULNESS AND I LOVE IT. Do I make sense yet so far? No? Awesome. Just let me gush okay? Okay.

Where do I even start? I mean… GAH. What even are words right now? Seriously? Okay. Get to the point Bee. Talk about the book. SO YES, this book. THE UPSIDE OF UNREQUITED is about Molly, who happens to be Abby’s cousin. You know Abby. Simon’s awesome friend. That Abby. ANYWAY. Molly has had a lot of crushes on boys, but hasn’t been kissed yet. And she’s very shy and introvert-y and adorable. So when her sister Cassie meets a girl and they start dating for real, Molly has all the sads because she’s lonely and she wants that too. And Cassie is trying to set her up with her girlfriend’s friend Will, who’s kind of cute and Molly kind of likes him, but then there’s Reid, her adorkable co-worker and he’s definitely crush-material too. And then her life gets all messy and complicated and yeah I’m not making sense so that’s it for the summary part of this review.

This story is a very personal one to Becky and it shows. It leaps off the pages and it made me feeeeeel so much more knowing that. The writing, as expected, is fantastic. It’s light and breezy but also packed with feels in the right moments and it’s funny. And yes, Simon and Abby make cameo appearances in it. Abby a bit more than Simon but still. It pleased me greatly because SIMON IS MY BAE and they mentioned Blue and GAAHHH. All the love for them. I miss them enormous amounts. So in case you were wondering if they came back. They do indeed. And they will come back in her next book too in a much bigger way but THAT’S NOT IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW. (Yes it is.) So Becky, your writing is gorgeous and amazing and I want to cover it with cookie dough and milk-soaked oreo’s and eat it with a spoon.

The story is perfect and cute and feelsy and I can’t even so let’s go over to the characters okay? Great. They’re all amazing again and I love them all. I love Olivia and Cassie and Reid and even Mina and Will. And Cassie & Molly’s mothers and little brother. They’re amazing too. But the star is Molly. She is SO SO SO relatable to me in so many ways and I just want to squish her forever. I LOVE YOU, MOLLY. Let me just scoop you up and hug you for all eternity okay? Okay. And the romance is also perfect again and there’s a teeeeny tiny hint of a triangle but it’s no big deal so who cares. Romance is A+++++ and all the cute.

So in short, another homerun for Becky. THE UPSIDE OF UNREQUITED is fantastic and I love it and I know it won’t release for a LONG time but who cares I had to share my love already. I love you Becky. Thank you for writing this story. I heart you even more now and I didn’t think that was possible. Now I have two books from you I can shove in people’s faces. And I will. Most definitely.
