Seventeen-year-old Cassie Hobbes has a gift for profiling people. Her talent has landed her a spot in an elite FBI program for teens with innate crime-solving abilities, and into some harrowing situations. After barely escaping a confrontation with an unbalanced killer obsessed with her mother’s murder, Cassie hopes she and the rest of the team can stick to solving cold cases from a distance.

But when victims of a brutal new serial killer start turning up, the Naturals are pulled into an active case that strikes too close to home: the killer is a perfect copycat of Dean’s incarcerated father—a man he’d do anything to forget. Forced deeper into a murderer’s psyche than ever before, will the Naturals be able to outsmart the enigmatic killer’s brutal mind games before this copycat twists them into his web for good?

With her trademark wit, brilliant plotting, and twists that no one will see coming, Jennifer Lynn Barnes will keep readers on the edge of their seats (and looking over their shoulders) as they race through the pages of this thrilling novel.

5 Stars

I am so very happy right now. Unlike The Naturals, which I loved but didn’t feel like a 5 star book, this one did. I loved every second of it. It was intense, heartstopping, scary at times and with a few sweet moments in between. I loved it so very much.

Giving a summary would give a lot away from The Naturals and I don’t want to throw spoilers in this review for either books. None that will ruin the book for you anyway. That’s going to be difficult, but I’ll try. Killer Instinct is the sequel to The Naturals and it’s set sometime after the events of the first book. Agent Sterling moves into the house to evaluate the Naturals program and soon everyone in the house is working on a new case. With and without permission. Because someone is copying Dean’s dad.

Killer Instinct is so intense, I couldn’t put it down. I was hooked right from the start and even when things got hard and pretty brutal and emotional, I could not stop reading. Even when I really needed a break, I didn’t stop. I read this in one sitting because I just had. To. Know. Even when I had to put it down, you know, to eat and stuff, it didn’t let me go. My mind was on this story the entire time. There’s a hint of a romance, maybe even a love triangle, but it’s really not big in this book. It’s still more… liking rather than really loving.

When the action and intense stuff are put on a low, Jennifer uses those times to work on character developement. And with that, the relationships. Romance as well as friendship. There isn’t any kissing until the end and it’s obvious which way the ‘love triangle’ is going to go. I knew it right from the start of the first book. I look forward to seeing how this romance grows in the next book.

The friendships are also still growing and I really liked that. Some grow, some are explored deeper. The characters themselves are also still growing and changing. I loved all of them and I loved how this book explored their pasts, even for a little bit.

I really hope there are going to be other books in this series because I love it so much! They’re intense and awesome and brilliant. If you’re a fan of TV-shows like The Mentalist or Lie To Me, you should give these books a try!
